As Chief Economist for the Americas, Thomas is responsible for the Swiss Re Institute’s economic and insurance market research for the Americas. This includes the sigma studies — Swiss Re’s research series on the insurance industry. Thomas and his team support Swiss Re’s strategic planning on market developments, the economic environment, innovation and regulatory factors affecting insurance and reinsurance markets in the Americas. His research focuses on the relationships between the general economy, capital markets and the insurance and reinsurance markets. Thomas is the author of many research studies on trends in the worldwide insurance industries, covering a broad range of topics including resilience and protection gaps, innovation and insurability, insurance cycles, the impact of inflation on insurance, liability claims drivers, etc. He publishes and speaks frequently on economic, insurance and risk-related topics. Thomas joined the Swiss Re Group in 1990 and has worked in Germany and Switzerland and the US. Prior experiences include marketing services, treaty underwriting, corporate development and competitor analysis. Thomas graduated from the University of Munich with a M.S. and a Ph.D. in economics.

Sean Egan is a founding partner and president of Egan-Jones Ratings Company (Egan-Jones), which was organized in 1992 for the purpose of providing timely, accurate credit ratings.  Over the past decade, Egan-Jones provide risk managers with warnings on Ambac, Countrywide, Enron, Greece, Lehman, MBIA, New Century and many others well in advance of the majority of market participants.  Fortune Magazine named Mr. Egan the number one person for warning about the 2007 credit crisis. Mr. Egan has appeared on most major media outlets and has testified numerous times in front of Congressional committees.  Prior to founding Egan-Jones, Mr. Egan worked as a commercial banker for JP Morgan, as an investment banker for Oppenheimer, and as a management consultant with KPMG Peat Marwick. Mr. Egan graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo and received an MBA from Harvard University.

Peter J. Gordon is Head and Chief Investment Officer of the US Commercial Real Estate Debt (US-CRED) team. US-CRED oversees nearly $12 billion in committed capital from insurance companies, pension funds and banks, across four vintage closed-end funds and various other institutional mandates. Previously, he was managing director of Commercial Real Estate Debt. Prior to joining the firm in 2016, Gordon served as managing director and head of commercial real estate (CRE) whole loan originations at Angelo, Gordon & Co., a global alternative investment-management firm, where he led the CRE whole loan team, responsible for sourcing, pricing, financing and structuring transactions, as well as managing assets in the investment portfolio. Prior to that, he was a senior member of the real estate finance and investment banking groups at both Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, where he was involved in all aspects of commercial real estate lending, from originations for balance sheet and commercial mortgage-backed securities to loan structuring, syndication and securitization. Gordon has been working in the commercial real estate space since 2001, including four years in construction management. Prior to joining 50 South Capital, Mike was a Senior Associate at RCP Advisors, a middle-market buyout fund-of-funds based in Chicago. At RCP Advisors, he was active in all aspects of building and managing its institutional and private client investor base including identifying new channels and geographies for fundraising, leading the firm’s RFP/RFI efforts and maintaining relationships with investment consultants. Mike is a Portfolio Manager for TIAA’s $300 Billion General Account investment portfolio.  His responsibilities include portfolio management, asset allocation, management of derivatives and hedging programs, currency risk management, and portfolio ALM.  Mike also leads TIAA’s capital markets activities including spread lending programs and debt management. Before joining TIAA, Mike was an Investment Risk Manager at Genworth Financial where he was responsible for asset/liability management, derivatives risk oversight and counterparty credit risk.  At Genworth, Mike was also a derivative trader responsible for developing hedging strategies and trading interest rate swaps, futures, and equity options.  Prior to Genworth, Mike worked for Principal Financial Group and managed a portfolio of structured products and derivatives. Mike holds a BS in industrial engineering from University of Michigan and an MBA in finance from University of Illinois.  He is a CFA Charterholder and a Professional Risk Manager (PRM).

Mr. Hsu joined DoubleLine at its inception in 2009. He is a portfolio manager for the DoubleLine Total Return and ABS/Infrastructure Income strategies. Mr. Hsu is a permanent member of the Fixed Income Asset Allocation and Structured Product Committees. Prior to that, he was responsible for analysis and trading of structured products where his focus included Residential MBS and ABS transactions.Mr. Hsu’s responsibilities have also included structuring and negotiating terms on new issue transactions and forming strategic partnerships with issuing entities in order to participate in key transactions. Prior to DoubleLine, he worked at TCW, where he focused on credit analysis for structured product securities and co-managed two structured product funds focusing on debt and equity investments. During this time, Mr. Hsu was actively involved with portfolio management decisions and investment analysis, including reverse engineering complex CDO/CLO structures. He holds a BS in Finance from the University of Southern California and is a CFA® charterholder.
